What was Warsop?
Originally, a tiny farming community
In its early days, a simple crossing point over the River Meden. Some say that it all began with a shop by a weir and that the name Warsop originated from that (Weir-Shop).
Then, a few stone cottages and farm buildings appeared, dotted along what is now the A60 and along Sherwood Street - and Warsop was established, and grew a little over time.
Then came the coal mines - and Warsop grew more.
Then the mining era collapsed and has now, all but disappeared.
The local church of St. Peter and St. Paul dates back to the 11th Century and the 'Old Hall' (Tudor Barn or Parish Centre) is reputed to be one of the most significant mediaeval buildings in the county.
